Niemand zeigt mir fertige Bilder. Niemand erklärt mir, wie die Welt aussieht.
Den Rest füge ich selbst hinzu.

Every Thursday, the bookmobile parks outside our house. I’m fourteen years old, and inside I discover a world I hardly knew existed. Books about India, the Himalayas and distant countries. Records with music from Brazil, Venezuela and the Caribbean. And Ravi Shankar, whose unfamiliar sounds stay with me.
In the evenings, I lie alone in bed, close my eyes and travel in my imagination to the most distant corners of the earth. I cross deserts, climb mountains and experience the wildest adventures. Nobody shows me ready-made pictures. Nobody tells me what the world looks like.
My imagination takes care of the rest.
