Warum ich plötzlich TikTok mache – und was Nepal mit Deutschland zu tun hat
Letzten Samstag habe ich etwas getan, was ich mir selbst nie zugetraut hätte: Ich habe einen TikTok-Kanal gestartet. Ohne Strategie, ohne Beleuchtung, ohne Ahnung, wie man sich am besten in Szene setzt. Einfach nur mit dem Handy in der Hand und ein paar Texten, die ich am Freitagabend in Windeseile geschrieben hatte.
Das Ergebnis? Nach nicht einmal drei Tagen: über 600.000 Views. Und das auf Videos über die nepalesische Verfassung. Ich war baff.
Warum Nepal? Ganz einfach: Ich habe dort enge Verbindungen, Freunde, eine Herzensfamilie. Und gerade in diesen turbulenten Tagen wollten sie meine Sicht hören. Also habe ich meine Gedanken aufgenommen und ins Netz gestellt. Nicht für die große Weltöffentlichkeit, sondern für ein paar Menschen in Kathmandu. Doch das Netz ist eben größer als gedacht.
Vielfalt als Schatz – oder als Bedrohung?
Viele Kommentare aus Nepal drehten sich um das Gleiche: Wie kann man so viele Unterschiede aushalten?
Nepal zählt etwa 30 Millionen Menschen – und 123 anerkannte Muttersprachen. 123! Zum Vergleich: Wie viele Muttersprachen traut sich Deutschland eigentlich offiziell zu? Spoiler: Deutlich weniger.
Und doch habe ich das Gefühl, wir Deutschen fürchten uns oft mehr vor Vielfalt als die Nepalesen. Wir diskutieren hitzig über Dialekte, Migration, Integration – und vergessen dabei, dass Vielfalt keine Schwäche ist, sondern ein Schatz.
Eine kleine Lektion fürs Leben
Jeder Mensch, jede Kultur ist wie ein Text. Ein Text, der gelesen werden will. Wenn ich nur in meiner eigenen Sprache, in meinem eigenen Horizont bleibe, lese ich diesen Text nicht – oder ich missverstehe ihn. Erst wenn ich meinen Blick öffne, kann etwas Neues entstehen: ein gemeinsamer Sinn.
Ich selbst habe das erst spät verstanden. In meiner Jugend in Deutschland war ich geprägt von engen Sichtweisen. Erst durch Begegnungen – mit indischer Musik, internationalen Jugendcamps, später mit interkulturellen Teams in der IT – habe ich gelernt: Die Welt ist bunter, als ich dachte. Und bunter heißt nicht chaotischer. Bunter heißt kreativer, lebendiger, menschlicher.
Was wir von Nepal lernen können
Natürlich hat Nepal seine Probleme. Aber es hat auch eine Stärke, die uns in Deutschland guttäte: Es lebt mit einer ungeheuren Vielfalt. Unterschiedliche Völker, Sprachen, Religionen – und trotzdem eine gemeinsame Identität als Nepalesen.
Anders gesagt: Nepal liest seine eigene Vielstimmigkeit nicht als Bedrohung, sondern als Erzählung. Eine Erzählung, in der Gegensätze sich nicht ausschließen, sondern ergänzen.
Optimistisch nach vorn
Ich hätte nie gedacht, dass ein spontaner TikTok-Kanal mir das so klar vor Augen führt. Aber vielleicht ist es gerade das Schöne: Wenn wir uns trauen, Neues zu probieren, merken wir, dass wir mehr aushalten und mehr gewinnen können, als wir dachten.
Also: Lasst uns weniger Angst haben vor der Vielfalt – und mehr Neugier. Vielleicht brauchen wir nicht 123 Sprachen wie Nepal. Aber wir brauchen 123 Mal mehr Mut, Unterschiede nicht als Bedrohung, sondern als Einladung zu verstehen.
Und wer weiß – vielleicht hilft uns dabei ja sogar TikTok. 😉

Why I Suddenly Started TikTok – and What Nepal Has to Do with Germany
Last Saturday I did something I never imagined I would: I started a TikTok channel. No strategy, no lighting setup, no idea how to look good on camera. Just me, my phone, and a few texts I had scribbled down the night before.
The result? In less than three days: over 600,000 views. On videos about the Nepali constitution, of all things. I was stunned.
Why Nepal? Simple: I have close connections there, friends, a heart-family. In these turbulent days they wanted to hear my perspective. So I recorded a few thoughts and put them online. Not for the global stage, but for a handful of people in Kathmandu. And yet, the internet had other plans.
Diversity: Treasure or Threat?
Many comments from Nepal circled around the same question: How can a country deal with so many differences?
Nepal has about 30 million people – and 123 officially recognized mother tongues. 123! For comparison: how many does Germany recognize? Spoiler: far fewer.
And still, I often feel that Germans are more afraid of diversity than Nepalis are. We argue passionately about dialects, migration, integration – and forget that diversity isn’t weakness, it’s a treasure.
A Small Life Lesson
Every person, every culture is like a text. A text that wants to be read. If I only stay within my own language, my own horizon, I don’t read it – or I misread it. Only when I open my perspective can something new emerge: shared meaning.
I understood this late. As a teenager in Germany, I grew up with narrow views. It was only through encounters – Indian music, international youth camps, later multicultural teams in IT – that I learned: the world is more colorful than I thought. And colorful doesn’t mean chaotic. It means creative, vibrant, human.
What Nepal Can Teach Us
Of course Nepal has its problems. But it also has a strength Germany could use: it lives with enormous diversity. Different peoples, languages, religions – yet still a shared identity as Nepalis.
In other words: Nepal doesn’t see its many voices as a threat, but as a story. A story where differences don’t cancel each other out – they complete one another.
Looking Ahead with Optimism
I never thought a spontaneous TikTok channel would make this so clear to me. But maybe that’s the beauty: when we dare to try something new, we discover we can handle more – and gain more – than we imagined.
So let’s fear diversity less – and be more curious. We don’t need 123 languages like Nepal. But we do need 123 times more courage to see differences not as a threat, but as an invitation.
And who knows – maybe TikTok can even help with that. 😉

किन म अचानक TikTok सुरु गर्न पुगेँ – र नेपालले जर्मनीसँग के सम्बन्ध छ
गत शनिबार मैले कहिल्यै सोचेकै थिइनँ: मैले TikTok च्यानल सुरु गरेँ। कुनै रणनीति थिएन, प्रकाशको तयारी थिएन, क्यामेरामा कस्तो देखिन्छु भन्ने थाहा थिएन। केवल म, मेरो फोन, र शुक्रबार राति चाँडै लेखेका केही विचार।
नतिजा? तीन दिन भित्र: ६ लाख भन्दा बढी दृश्य। त्यो पनि नेपालको संविधानबारेका भिडियोहरूमा। म अचम्मित भएँ।
किन नेपाल? सरल छ: मेरो त्यहाँ नजिकका सम्बन्ध छन्, साथीहरू, एक „हृदय परिवार“। यी अशान्त दिनहरूमा उनीहरूले मेरो दृष्टिकोण सुन्न चाहन्थे। त्यसैले मैले केही विचार रेकर्ड गरेर इन्टरनेटमा हालें। विश्व मञ्चका लागि होइन, काठमाडौँका केही मानिसहरूका लागि। तर इन्टरनेट अझ ठूलो थियो।
विविधता: खजाना वा खतरा?
नेपालबाट आएका धेरै टिप्पणी एउटै प्रश्न वरिपरि घुम्थे: कसरी यति धेरै भिन्नताहरूलाई सम्हाल्ने?
नेपालमा करिब ३ करोड मानिस छन् – र १२३ वटा आधिकारिक रूपमा मान्यता प्राप्त मातृभाषा। १२३! तुलना गर्न: जर्मनीले कति मान्यता दिएको छ? स्पोइलर: धेरै कम।
र तैपनि, मलाई प्रायः लाग्छ, हामी जर्मनहरू नेपालीहरू भन्दा बढी विविधताबाट डराउँछौं। हामी उपभाषा, आप्रवासन, एकीकरणबारे जोरसाथ बहस गर्छौं – र बिर्सन्छौं कि विविधता कमजोरी होइन, खजाना हो।
जीवनको एउटा सानो पाठ
हरेक मानिस, हरेक संस्कृति एउटा पाठ हो। एउटा पाठ जसलाई पढ्न चाहिन्छ। यदि म मेरो आफ्नै भाषा, मेरो आफ्नै सन्दर्भभित्र मात्र रहन्छु भने, म यो पाठ पढ्दिनँ – वा गलत बुझ्छु। दृष्टिकोण खोल्दा मात्र नयाँ कुरा जन्मिन्छ: साझा अर्थ।
म यो ढिलो मात्र बुझें। जर्मनीमा किशोर हुँदा, म साँघुरो सोचमा हुर्किएको थिएँ। भेटघाटहरू मार्फत मात्र – भारतीय संगीत, अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय युवा शिविर, पछि आईटीका बहुसांस्कृतिक टोलीहरू – मैले सिकें: संसार मैले सोचेको भन्दा धेरै रङ्गीन छ। रङ्गीन भनेको अव्यवस्थित होइन। रङ्गीन भनेको सिर्जनशील, जीवन्त, मानव।
नेपालले हामीलाई के सिकाउन सक्छ
अवश्य पनि नेपालसँग आफ्नै समस्या छन्। तर यससँग एउटा बल छ जुन जर्मनीलाई चाहिन्छ: यसले विशाल विविधतासँग बाँच्छ। विभिन्न जाति, भाषा, धर्म – तर अझै पनि साझा पहिचान: नेपाली।
अर्को शब्दमा: नेपालले आफ्ना धेरै स्वरलाई खतरा भनेर होइन, कथा भनेर पढ्छ। एउटा कथा जसमा भिन्नताहरूले एकअर्कालाई नष्ट गर्दैनन् – बरु पूरा गर्छन्।
आशावादी भविष्यतिर
मैले कहिल्यै सोचेको थिइनँ कि एउटा आकस्मिक TikTok च्यानलले मलाई यो यति स्पष्ट देखाउनेछ। तर सायद यतै सुन्दरता छ: जब हामी नयाँ कुरा प्रयास गर्न साहस गर्छौं, हामीले भन्दाभन्दा धेरै सम्हाल्न र धेरै जित्न सक्नेछौं।
त्यसैले: विविधताबाट कम डराऔं – र अझ जिज्ञासु बनौं। हामीलाई नेपालको जस्तै १२३ भाषा आवश्यक छैन। तर हामीलाई १२३ गुणा बढी साहस चाहिन्छ, भिन्नतालाई खतरा होइन, निम्तोका रूपमा हेर्न।
